Well known for his work on Fallout 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Knights of the Old Republic II , and Baldur's Gate among many others, he's an authority on what it takes to make a wasteland both scary and appealing. InXile Entertainment have released their first gameplay video on Vimeo. Sadly as its not on Youtube I can't embed it, but you can see it for yourself here. It includes Chris Keenan playing part of the Agricultural Centre.

Brian says it all better than I can....

We are very proud to provide the first gameplay video of Wasteland 2, which will allow our backers to see how far we've come and how everything is coming together. The usual way of doing things in this industry would see us create a demo specifically for displaying to the press or at game shows, but we're very glad to have been allowed the freedom to create a demo video from an actually playable area, which ensures there's no wasted code. This is a straight video capture of Developm…

News From the Wastes - 29 June 2012

Here's your weekly news roundup, in conjunction with Nukapedia: The Fallout Wiki.

Brian's been talking again... This time to IndeRPGs. Most of the news isn't new, but this bit was interesting....

...Obviously some skills are going to be used more than others and I think those are quite obvious. No doubt the Medic skill will be used more often than say Toaster Repair or Rocket Science. However it is a party based game so there will be a natural balancing that comes about unless you give all 4 characters the exact same skills. But that said we also reward people who pick some obscure skills to reward them for the tradeoff. But the reward may not come easy… you may have to discover it.

Thanks to George/Lizzunchbox at Wikia for setting up the Com…

Community Interview with Chris Keenan

Hi Folks,

Our Good friends at Wikia Gaming have secured an opportunity for you to ask your questions to Chris Keenan, Producer for Wasteland 2. If you have a burning question about the new game, or Inxile Entertainment, please leave your question here. We'll be submitting a dozen or so to him on Thursday, and reporting back to you the answers.

Agent c 20:06, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

I've submitted a dozen questions to Chris and am eagerly awaitng his response. For the questions I've asked I've for the most part drawn inspiration from the suggestions submitted, although there are a couple I have asked directly.

For some of the questions, I didn't ask as they seemed to be covered in The vision Document - its a great read if you haven't seen it alre…

Vision Document Released

Brian Fargo has through Kickstarter released a link to the Wasteland 2 Vision Document.

Selected quotes below

In the early seventies, an astronomer located a cluster of meteors that would cross Earth’s path in the

summer of ninety eight. Keeping this secret was the government's top priority. First, they did not want

to panic the populace. Second, they saw it as a way to get the upper-hand against the Soviets. Building a

meteor defense platform became the United States’ number one priority. It took 15 years to build the

Citadel Starstation, a highly advanced orbital nuclear anti-meteor missile platform. The United States'

Citadel Starstation was slated to be fully operational by March, just months before the meteors were

believed to be arriving. Te…

Kickstarter Update

With a day passed in the Wasteland 2 KickStarter here's a quick update on the progress as of 14:39, March 14, 2012 (UTC).

The Campaign has so far raised over $600,000 - already 4 $10,000 party packages, 2x $5,000 Statues and over 10 thousand individual donations. Sadly the $2,500 Blood Sausage has not proved popular.

Some things to note: international shipping costs extra, and non PC versions are only likely if the donations go over target

Over on NukaPedia we're getting into the spirit of the occasion with a pledge brag blog. Join in with your pledge here.

Fargo talks of Kickstarter to fund new Wasteland

Some time ago, Fargo started talking about possibly starting a Kickstarter fundraiser to start a Wasteland reboot.

He doesn't know if it'd be straight up called Wasteland 2, but he repeatedly emphasized that, despite having thought about it for only 48 hours, it wouldn't be a crazy genre change up. Wasteland, whatever its called, will be "100% faithful to its roots." This means a Wasteland game that "would be focusing on top-down, probably isometric, party based, skill based -- where if you'd just finished playing Wasteland and moved onto this you'd feel comfortable."

The big thing Fargo emphasizes, that the fans are often missing, is that "this process means we don't have to do it like the publisher wants." Fans on the boards are worried th…

Brian Fargo working for Bethesda?

Duck and Cover reports that Brian Fargo, the original founder of Interplay, and currently the CEO of inXile, might be working on a game for Bethesda Softworks. When asked about what he was promoting on his tour of Europe, Fargo said:

For now it is unknown whether Fargo was being serious or making a joke. We'll let you know when we know more.

Fargo left Interplay in 2002, after the company was purchased by Herve Caen's Titus. He then went on to start inXile Entertainment, and has mentioned on numerous occasions that he would like to create a sequel to Wasteland, co-created by Fargo himself. In 2007, inXile hired Jason Anderson, one of the original creators of Fallout, to work on a new, so far unannounced cRPG.

More post-apocalyptic concept art at inXile site

The inXile Entertainment website has been updated with a new iPhone game - ShapeShape. While this isn't of much interest to us, another thing is - the header has also changed, and instead of one post-apocalyptic piece of concept art it now includes three, which you can see to the right. Of course, they are most likely from Jason Anderson's RPG, which is assumed to be Wasteland 2.

InXile is hiring

Brian Fargo's inXile Entertainment has recently posted a new Content Designer job ad. The designer in question will be responsible for such tasks as locations, quests, character descriptions, branching dialogues and history, and is required to have a 4-year experience in game design.

Given that the "bonus traits" mentioned are being "a fan of PAW" (post-apocalyptic worlds) and "knowledge of classic CRPGs", it's safe to say that the ad is for a job on Jason Anderson's game that is speculated to be a Wasteland sequel.

Wasteland 2 is coming?

Brian Fargo's inXile Entertainment has launched a new version of the company's website, and the image in the website's header is looking quite wastelandish.

inXile has the rights to the Wasteland title, and Fargo has indicated several times that he wants to create sequel to the original Wasteland. Jason Anderson, one of the creators of Fallout, is now a creative director for a new, unannounced role-playing game by inXile, which might be Wasteland 2.
